Antalya Termassos & Düden Waterfalls Tour

Termessos - The location of Termessos is the first thing that takes you by surprise. Especially today, when most of the world lives on plains or, at most, on the slopes of mountains. Termessos is located on top of a mountain over 1000 meters high. However, it was a big city for its time. Strong people!!! They really were. They are mainly known for resisting Alexander the Great: they captured thirty Lycian cities before Alexander's time. They are also said to have maintained their freedom from Rome. They made treaties on their own terms! When you visit this place, you can't help but wonder how a city came to be here. First we come across the "Royal Road", carved into the rock or built with heavy stones. Then we come across numerous watchtowers/outposts around the city. Then we see the outer walls and the inner walls and finally, after forty-five minutes of climbing, we reach the city! The gym complex welcomes you with all its might. Unfortunately, nature has taken its toll and is slowly but surely covering up the ruins. Unfortunately, no excavations have been carried out other than superficial surveys, so you walk among the ruins not knowing what lies beneath, but it is impossible not to be amazed by the fine workmanship of these buildings and the walls that stand. Climbing even higher, you come to the theatre. The theatre’s location is breathtaking, right on the cliff, overlooking the mountains and the plain. Despite the torments of man and nature, the theatre is in very good condition. The cavea is almost complete, but the stage building is less fortunate, but still in good condition. Then, passing through the palaestra (one of the few level areas in the city), you go to the Bouleterion; the town hall with its thin and strong walls that have survived to this day. It dates back to the 1st century BC. A reward awaits those who are prepared to climb up and down between the bushes and trees and the large stone pile of the Temple of Artemis. A complete overview of the city of Antalya and the Gulf of Antalya. This is truly an incredibly beautiful view!!! As you walk along the single stone paved street to the Agora, you pass by what is known as the “Founders’ House” because of the inscription on the large pile of stones that clearly tells the visitor how big the house must have been. The Agora was surrounded by the Stoa of King Attalos II of Pergamon and most likely the Stoa of Osbaras, a wealthy citizen of Termessos. In the center is the hero and five large cisterns. The city must have had serious water problems and they did their best to collect every drop of water. The tomb of Alketas (the hero of the city’s youth) is on the other side of the valley but is well worth seeing. You can also walk around the beauty of the rich fauna that you miss. You can miss a lot of Termessos because you watch where you step and you often miss ruins that take you back in time. There is much more to see in Termessos if you have the time. It would take hours to fully explore this remarkable, vast necropolis. The Duden Waterfalls are a group of waterfalls located in the Antalya Province of Turkey. The waterfalls, formed by the Duden River, one of the largest rivers in southern Anatolia, are located 12 km northeast of Antalya. At this point, the crystal clear waters of the Lower Duden Falls fall over a rocky cliff directly into the Mediterranean Sea.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How difficult is the hike to Termessos Ancient City?

Termessos is a mountain fortress located at high altitude. The hike from the parking area to the main theater involves uphill walking on rocky and uneven paths for about 30–40 minutes. It requires a moderate level of fitness. We recommend sturdy walking shoes or sneakers.

Is this tour suitable for families with young children or seniors?

While the Düden Waterfalls are easily accessible for everyone, the Termessos part can be challenging for toddlers in strollers or seniors with mobility issues. However, if your family enjoys nature walks and historical exploration, it is a very rewarding experience.

What should I bring with me?

Since Termessos is located in a National Park with limited facilities, we highly recommend bringing plenty of water, a hat, sun protection, and comfortable hiking shoes. Don't forget your camera for the breathtaking views from the "Eagle’s Nest" theater!

Are there two different Düden Waterfalls? Which one will we visit?

Yes, there is the Upper Düden (inland, surrounded by a park) and the Lower Düden (where the water falls into the sea). This tour typically visits the Upper Düden Waterfalls, which offers a refreshing forest atmosphere and a hidden cave behind the falls.

Is lunch included in the tour?

Most of our packages include a traditional Turkish lunch at a local restaurant near the waterfall area. Please check your specific booking details or contact us if you have special dietary requirements like vegetarian or vegan options.
