Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Red Tour too "touristy"? Will I see the real Cappadocia? It is the classic for a reason! While the Red Tour visits famous spots like the Goreme Open Air Museum, it is the essential soul of the region. At Azure Voyage, we take pride in weaving through the crowds. Our guides share local stories and secret details about the frescoes that you won’t find in guidebooks, making even the most popular stops feel intimate and personal.
I’m not a big history buff—will I be bored? Not at all! While there is plenty of history at Uchisar Castle and the ancient churches, this tour is just as much about art and imagination. From trying your hand at the kick-wheel in an Avanos pottery workshop to spotting animal shapes in the rocks at Devrent Valley, there is a constant change of pace that keeps the energy high and the smiles wide.
What is the main difference between the Red Tour and the Green Tour?Great question! Think of the Red Tour (North) as the "Heart of History and Art"—it’s shorter, less walking-intensive, and focuses on rock-cut churches and fairy chimneys. The Green Tour (South) is more of an "Underground & Nature Expedition," involving more hiking and a visit to an underground city. If it’s your first day, the Red Tour is the perfect introduction.
Do I need to be physically fit for this tour? The Red Tour is very accessible. Most of our stops involve light walking on paved or well-trodden paths. The Goreme Open Air Museum has some steps and uneven terrain, but we take it slow. If you can handle a leisurely stroll through a park, you’ll be perfectly fine on this adventure!
What should I wear for a day in Northern Cappadocia?Comfort is key! We recommend comfortable walking shoes (sneakers are great) and layers. Even in the summer, the rock churches can be cool, and in the shoulder seasons, the breeze at Uchisar Panorama can be crisp. Don't forget your camera and a hat—the Cappadocian sun is beautiful but bright!
Is the pottery workshop a "sales pitch"?We hear this a lot! In Avanos, we visit a master potter to witness an ancient Hittite art form. While there is a beautiful gallery where you can purchase souvenirs if you fall in love with a piece, the focus is on the experience. Watching the master work—and trying it yourself—is a highlight our guests talk about for years.
What if I have dietary restrictions for the lunch?Just let us know! Whether you are vegan, gluten-free, or have specific allergies, our local lunch spots are very accommodating. We want you to enjoy a "taste of home" without any worries, so we’ll make sure there is something delicious waiting for you.
Will there be shopping stops, and will I feel pressured to buy something? We believe that Cappadocia’s art—like the intricate Turkish carpets or the color-changing Sultanite stone—is a vital part of its culture. We do visit a few carefully selected local workshops, but with a major difference: Azure Voyage strictly selects partners who prioritize hospitality over sales. You are our guest, not just a customer. You will have the total freedom to explore the craft, learn the history, and move at your own pace without any aggressive sales pressure.
How does Azure Voyage ensure my rights are protected during these visits?Your trust is our most valuable asset. We only visit authorized workshops that we have personally vetted for quality and fair pricing. Because we represent you, these establishments are held to a higher standard of service. If you choose to bring a piece of Anatolia home, you can do so knowing that your rights are protected by our brand’s reputation. If you’re not interested in shopping, these stops simply serve as a fascinating live museum of Turkish heritage.
